Anger Management

Triggers, rage, anger awareness, anger management

Anger is one of the most misunderstood emotions. Primal, usually understood as negative, it is an awkward emotion to explore. It is not without merit or benefit, healthy anger is an inevitable aspect of life, that can help confront issues or process events.

But when does it go too far, or too frequent? Anger uncontrolled is called rage. Raging is however invariably hurtful and negative. Rage is also dangerous as uncontrolled anger, patients who enter it too often put themselves and others at serious risk.

Anger Management

Anger management, rage and triggers.

Anger management therapies tend to focus on the triggers that are most likely to precipitate a patient into a rage or uncontrolled anger, and the underpinning psychological values or hurts they ascribe to the trigger event.

By exploring why (and what) the patient has to “bottle in”, by identifying the contexts and typical relations or issues that trigger the anger outburst, all help building awareness and coping skill. Patients with anger management issues often obsess over negative events, which drives them outwardly aggressive and crabby, sometimes feeding a vicious cycle of social loss and rising bitterness.
